LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. — Companies, along with new RV Website RVs.com, Join The High Speed Motorsports World with Andretti #10 Team Sponsorship, Raising Industry Profile FreedomRoads, the nations largest RV dealer, and Camping World, the nations largest retailer of RV and camping accessories, today announced that they have joined the high speed NASCAR Motorsports world with the co-sponsorship of the #10 Andretti team. RVs.com, the new and premiere RV website, will also join as a sponsor further building the RV industrys profile among NASCAR fans. The sponsorships will span 28 races in the 2006 NASCAR Busch Series season. This is the first time that an RV dealer network or RV related retailer has taken on a major NASCAR sponsorship. The companies expect this high profile exposure to benefit the RV industry as a whole from retailing to manufacturing. The sponsorships promise to expand awareness among the well matched NASCAR demographic about the RV industry and lifestyle, as well as FreedomRoads and Camping World as premiere RV and RV accessory and camping retailers respectively. The addition of RVs.com rounds out the sponsorships and will stimulate fans to visit what is being touted as the premier RV website for RV buying and selling, financing and a broad range of RV related information. They will kick off the sponsorships with a formal announcement and press event at Daytona International Speedway on Tuesday, February 14, 2006. FreedomRoads Chairman and CEO Marcus Lemonis stated, “FreedomRoads and Camping World are very excited about entering the Motorsports industry and expanding awareness of what our companies have to offer and the RV lifestyle in general. We are exposing millions of NASCAR fans to this growing lifestyle, and we are positively thrilled to be doing it with the #10 Andretti team.” Mark Boggess, President of Camping World, echoed Lemonis saying that, “For everyone involved in these sponsorships, we are looking at very significant marketing opportunities. These come at a time when consumers are already looking at RVing and camping as great recreation options.”

Disabled youngsters left high and dry after their swimming pool closed are again having a splashing time. Children at Oakleigh Gardens School, South Tyneside, had nowhere to swim when their pool closed in April. The pool, in the school grounds, has been adapted to cater for youngsters with disabilities, but when its boiler broke down, the future of pupils swimming lessons was in doubt.

This article presents three models of counseling exceptional students from a systems perspective. The authors present their definition of counseling, the goals of counseling, and the counseling relationship from a systems perspective. Each model is described, including assessment and intervention techniques appropriate for working with children, adolescents, and their families when giftedness and learning disabilities and other disabilities are part of the context. The authors discuss implications for school counselors and provide several cases as examples. Systems perspectives are not traditionally employed in school counseling, but they can indeed be part of effective counseling responses to mental health concerns of students and their families. Certainly, that would include operating a school counseling program from a systems perspective, as suggested by the American School Counselor Association in its ASCA National Model[R] (2005). However, a family counselor who uses a systems model also can engage school personnel in the counseling process at appropriate times, to the benefit of client, family, and school. This article will present our clinical perspectives regarding the work of family counselors with students and their families, especially in relation to school issues. The content here will focus on counseling with exceptional students and their families, with exceptional meaning students who are gifted, have a learning disability, or have some other disability that requires extra support at school. When school counselors recognize that working with the family of a child with exceptionality in the school setting might be productive, the theoretical background and applications suggested here can offer guidance for more effective collaboration with families. Additionally, systems perspectives can offer school counselors tools for understanding concerns that siblings of exceptional students might possess. Finally, school counselors who understand family systems work might be better able to facilitate school involvement with family counselors. When using a systems perspective, it is important to match theoretical models to clients and their needs (Moon Hall, 1998). A variety of models within the systems perspective are available (Moon, 2002; Moon Thomas, 2003). When exceptional students are counseled from a systems perspective, one of three models (Thomas Moon, 2004) might be useful: (a) the Belin-Blank Center Model (Colangelo Davis, 1997); (b) a combined structural-strategic approach (Haley, 1976; Minuchin, 1974); or (c) an imaginative-postmodern approach (Freeman, Epston, Lobovits, 1997; White Epston, 1990), which relies on changing the narrative and focusing on solution.

Builders Take the Downturn as an Opportunity to Reorganize, as BuilderMT Again Outsells all its Competitors Combined LAKEWOOD, Colo. — BuilderMT, the leading provider of production management software for residential home builders, today announced that it has added 75 new clients in the last five quarters, far outselling all of its competitors combined. In other notable news, two of BuilderMTs clients won the two most-prestigious honors in home bulding. Veridian Homes, a BuilderMT client, was named Professional Builder Magazines “Builder of the Year.” And London Bay Homes, another BuilderMT client, won “Americas Best Builder Award for 2008″ from Builder Magazine. BuilderMTs software sales and the growth of its user base have been accelerated by the dramatically rapid adoption of it newest software products, Business Process Management (BPM) and Trade Portal, a web-based communication platform. BuilderMT now has a customer base approaching 700 companies and more than 7,000 actual users. Another reason for the increased software sales is that BuilderMT is a founding member of the BASE Alliance. BASE (for “Builders Alliance for Software Efficiency”) is comprised of the nations most powerful, successful software companies, all pre-integrated through BuilderMT. Base member companies include, in alphabetical order, Avid Ratings, AxisPointe, Builder1440, BuilderMT, Corrigo, Customer Velocity, RIM BlackBerry, Sage Software (provider of construction management solutions), Sales Simplicity, and Sprint/Nextel.

The American Bar Association Standing Committee on Lawyers Professional Liability released data on a cross-section of legal malpractice claims during the period of 2003-2005. The survey, Profile of Legal Malpractice Claims, seeks to help lawyers reduce malpractice behavior by providing a snapshot of malpractice claim activity. The committee surveyed insurers that provide legal malpractice insurance about the number and type of legal malpractice claims received. The committee performed similar studies in 1985, 1995 and 1999. These surveys are not comprehensive reviews of all malpractice claims against all lawyers during a given period. They rely on self- reporting from insurers that provide legal malpractice insurance, and only measure claims received by participating insurers. The pool of insurers that reported data for the period 2000-2003 is not the same as that which reported during previous periods. As a result, comparisons of data between periods are not reliable indicators of legal malpractice trends. The report shows how many claims participating insurers received from lawyers working in various practice areas and firm sizes. Of these claims, it also quantifies the types of activities lawyers performed on behalf of clients and the types of errors clients said that lawyers made.
INCREASES IN MEDICAL MALPRACTICE PREMIUMS and malpractice awards to plaintiffs have received considerable attention in recent years. Noting the substantial growth in medical malpractice premiums in certain states, the American Medical Association has declared 19 states to be in “full-blown medical liability crisis” and advocates tort reform to limit medical malpractice damages. Congressional leaders and the Bush administration have echoed those concerns in calls for federal limits on malpractice awards. The growth of medical malpractice liability costs has the potential to affect the delivery of health care in the United States in several ways. First, if growth in malpractice payments results in higher malpractice insurance premiums for physicians, those premiums, along with the costs of litigation, may affect the size and composition of the physician workforce (through their location, retirement, specialization, and initial career choices). Second, the growth of potential losses from malpractice liability might encourage physicians to practice “defensive medicine,” ordering more tests and performing more procedures in order to reduce their malpractice exposure. Defensive medicine could also cause a reduction in care: rising malpractice liability could discourage physicians from accepting certain high-risk or uninsured patients. Physicians may believe that the compensation for treating such patients is insufficient to offset the potentially much larger costs of being sued for malpractice. Third, to the extent that the growth of malpractice premium costs is passed on to patients through higher health insurance premiums, increases in malpractice liability could affect health insurance coverage and employment. Because most Americans receive health insurance through their employer, an increase in an employers health care bill may result in a decline in other forms of compensation (such as wages or benefits) or a reduction in employment for those workers for whom compensation adjustments are infeasible (such as those near the minimum wage). Those concerns prompt us to ask four questions: * Are increases in medical malpractice payments responsible for increases in physicians malpractice premiums?

Literature circles are a topic of interest to various literacy educators, and their use has been discussed in a variety of academic journals, conference papers, and workshops. Teachers at all grade levels utilize literature circles as a vehicle through which students learn to: think critically about literature, express their ideas in oral and written forms, and better enjoy their literacy experiences. The purpose of this Digest is to introduce some procedures for implementing literature circles and to review some recent findings regarding the benefits of literature circles on students learning. ELEMENTS OF LITERATURE CIRCLESThe form taken by literature circles varies according to the students needs, their abilities, and the characteristics of individual classrooms. However, all literature circles share the following three basic elements: diversity, self-choice, and student initiative (Daniels, 2002). Based upon curriculum goals or particular themes students are studying, the teacher selects a set of texts which are either thematically related books of various genres or a body of work by a single author (Brabham Villaume, 2000; Gilbert, 2000). Learners then are either assigned to a “circle” by their teacher or they may form their own groups, based on students reading interests or book titles they have selected (Burns, 1998). Within each circle, students are in charge of their own learning and have responsibilities, such as leading discussions and deciding the volume of material to be read for each meeting (Farinacci, 1998; Peralta-Nash Dutch, 2000). PROCEDURES FOR IMPLEMENTING LITERATURE CIRCLESThis section will discuss a procedure for implementing literature circles, which includes: reading material selection, community building, number of students in each circle, preparation for discussion, and sharing and discussion. The reading materials used in literature circles are important to lively and meaningful discussions (Farinacci, 1998). According to Brabham and Villaume (2000), fiction is the most commonly used reading material in literature circles, although other types of texts, such as nonfiction, picture books, and newspaper articles can also be used with great success. Some authors, including Farinacci (1998) and Peralta-Nash and Dutch (2000) have suggested the following criteria for selecting texts to use in literature circles: * Comprehensible to students of different abilities and interests
TEXT: Although many of the recent reports on school reform assert the value of learning to read and write, they fail to mention literature as important to achieving quality education. Discussing trends and issues in the profession, the NCTE Commission on Literature (Suhor and Spooner, 1985) notes that reform proposals, in addition, call for little emphasis on preparation for teaching literature. This fact, along with an emphasis on teaching reading comprehension rather than on responses to literature, suggests a general belief that literature is relatively inconsequential or that no problems are involved in its teaching. The following is a brief account of issues surrounding the teaching of literature in high schools today. HIGH SCHOOL READING INTERESTS TODAY–WHAT ARE THEY? Although it is impossible to generalize from the results of limited surveys of reading interests, survey results do provide interesting information. McLeod and Oehlers (1983) study of student preferences among selected traditional and young adult novels reveals that adolescents consistently choose junior or more contemporary novels over traditional novels. Grimmes (1983) survey of the reading interests of 1,650 senior high school students in Nebraska indicates that students show a strong interest in recent popular horror fiction, such as THE SHINING, FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC, and JAWS. These works often have film corollaries. But other choices include works often considered standard: ANIMAL FARM, LORD OF THE FLIES, THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN, and TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. Added to this list of standards are those noted by McLeod (1983) as paperback “classics” that are perennial best-sellers–such works as THE LITTLE PRINCE, 1984, EAST OF EDEN, THE GREAT GATSBY, A SEPARATE PEACE, GONE WITH THE WIND, WALDEN, and PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. Thomason (1983) surveyed 236 high school sophomores and found that (1) young adults do read for pleasure but find other pastimes more enjoyable; (2) students find reading more appealing if they can choose their own material; (3) high school students do not enjoy being read to by teachers; (4) required reading does not turn teenagers against reading; and (5) sophomore boys like to read science fiction, adventure, mystery, sports, and short stories, while sophomore girls like to read romances, mystery, and adventure. Among the issues educators should consider is whether a literature curriculum can be based upon such findings.

Ever wonder why were all so hung up on beauty–why its important to both men and women, no matter our race or place in the world, and why people across different cultures have similar ideals? “There are evolutionary roots to beauty,” explains psychologist Nancy Etcoff, a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and author of Survival of the Prettiest: The Science of Beauty. “Essentially, beauty is a biological advertisement of health.” In other words, people are attracted to visible signs of good health like clear skin, shiny hair and rosy cheeks because these were the clues our ancestors used to determine whether someone would make a good mate. These days, the natural signs of beauty are easily enhanced. The perfect-hued lipstick and blush, for example, impart a healthy glow, and the right moisturizers can keep your complexion soft. Improving on natures gifts is anything but vanity; Etcoff explains that beautifying yourself is simply another form of self-care. “More and more, people are viewing their health and their looks as being united. Its not simply putting on makeup or getting your hair done–its taking care of yourself and your body.” All the more reason to care for your skins specific needs, When you find a makeup look thats just right for your age, attitude and complexion, the beauty/health connection is confirmed. Here, three experts–makeup artists Sue Devitt, Bobbi Brown and Carol Shaw–offer advice on creating a look thats right for you. Though its impossible to hold back the clock forever, the common beauty goal for women in their late 20s: and early 30s is stalling time for another few years–and with the right makeup, enhancing the glow that already exists, explains Sue Devitt. The most complete and authoritatie source of information on those who design, specify, place, repair and use concrete.
Q. Is there any research data about the levels of chlorides (salts) in soil that will cause damage to concrete and rebar? A. Chloride does not, in itself, damage concrete or metals embedded in concrete. It does make damage from cyclic freezing worse if the concrete is so exposed. The presence of any chloride in concrete has the potential to promote corrosion of embedded metal. The effect of chloride on concrete in soil will depend not only on the amount of chloride in the soil, but also on the permeability of the concrete. The extreme would be concrete exposed to seawater. If the soil in question is a former marine environment, then the presence of chloride is probably your least concern.

ADVERTISING MEDIAAUDIOThe most common audio advertising media is FM radio. Placement of an advertisement on FM radio costs about as much as an advertisement placed in a metropolitan newspaper. However, radio is more dynamic than print alternatives because it allows the advertiser essentially to talk with the consumer. Indeed, many small business consultants believe that an entertaining and informative radio advertising campaign can be a major asset. Nonetheless, some analysts contend that small business owners should proceed cautiously before deciding to rely exclusively on radio advertising. Indeed, most businesses incorporate a media mix when attempting to sell their products or services, utilizing radio advertising in concert with print and other advertising media. The key for small business owners is to study what types of advertising best suits their products and services and to use that media to spearhead their advertising campaign.Radio stations feature many different programming emphases. These range from music-oriented formats such as country, adult contemporary, classic rock, and alternative rock to news-or talk-oriented formats. Since these different formats attract different demographic segments of the total audience, business owners can take appreciable measures to reach their target audience simply by buying time on appropriate stations. Another major advantage of radio advertising is that it is inexpensive to place and to produce, allowing small business owners to place advertisements on more than one station in a given market. In addition, radio advertising content can be changed quickly to meet changes in the market or to reflect new business objectives. Finally, radio reaches large numbers of commuters, income-generating people who often pay more attention to radio advertising than to other advertising media, especially if they are driving alone. The costs associated with purchasing radio advertising time reflect this emphasis on reaching the commuter audience. The four time slots, or dayparts, offered for advertisers by most radio stations are the morning drive, daytime, afternoon drive, and evening. The two most expensivebut also most effective advertising slotsare the morning and afternoon drive times.

Sunday edition of Britains tabloid newspaper features articles on news and sports, plus celebrity gossip, regular columnists and opinion.
The primary purpose of this article is to examine the inner subjective experience of the father; hence, the inner father. The focus on the subjective makes possible the exploration and unification of two significant dimensions of the father experience: first, the inner representational world of human consciousness as it involves the father experience, and second, the meaning of having a father or being fathered. Present-day research on paternal relationships focuses on the male parent himself, on the father role, and on father-child interaction, often in the context of other family relationships (Marsiglio, 1995; Pleck, 1997). It also looks at institutional factors that may influence paternal practices. Some contemporary investigations also address the child, examining his/her gender, level of development, and attitudes toward the male parent (Doherty, Kouneski, Erickson, 1998). The focus of this article is on an additional dimension: the inner, subjective experience and meaning associated with the father. Here, inner subjective experience refers to the ways in which the individual intrapsychically represents the father and the images and attendant feelings connected to mental representations of him (St. Clair, 1986). The meaning of the father signifies the individuals interpretations of his/her intrapsychic images of and feelings about the father. Interpretations are infused with both personal experience and cultural ideology. I enumerate the features of the inner subjective world, particularly those aspects that pertain to family life. I then explicate the attributes of the inner father and father meaning. A second and related purpose is to offer a new way of thinking about the sons and daughters bond with his/her father, one that is theoretically rooted in object relations theory, analytic psychology, and John Bowlbys ethological attachment theory (1969/1982, 1973, 1980; Greenberg Mitchell, 1983; Jacobi, 1953/1970; Jung, 1933; 1959/1968). I draw from Bowlbys work to explore the possibilities of innate structures in the personality that lay the foundation for the inner father. I then draw from cultural anthropological and psychological literature to hypothesize that aspects of the inner father may be genetically inherited. In the next section of the article, I discuss three levels of fatherlessness that appear to exist–personal, psychological, and societal. Finally, I address the significance of the inner father for the practitioner working with individuals, families, and the larger community. In object relations theory, the external world is known internally through the process of mental representation (St. Clair, 1986). Object relations theorists recognize that the inner world of humans not only contains representations of the individuals present life but images of the past that exercise influence on everyday experiences, particularly interpersonal relationships. These mental representations are affect-laden. They contain the emotions generated from the interpersonal encounters and life experience that gave rise to the imagery. Not only is the remembrance of the event housed in memory even when the memory is unconscious, but the associated emotions are also retained. The uncovering or revelation of the subjective inner life of persons thus illuminates and makes meaning of the observable, behaviooral dimensions of an individuals life and of the feelings that underlie his/her behavior (Ross, 1982).

Byline: STEVE HUGHES THE UKs market for motorhomes is booming, with sales soaring three-fold in 10 years. Last year was an all-time record, with more than 11,000 new vehicles registered and a total of almost 40,000 changing hands, with prices averaging pounds 17,000 for good second-hand examples. New sales this year are expected to rise to more than 11,500 and it is estimated that more than 140,000 motorhomes are in use in the UK. Among the UKs major players are Auto-Sleepers, which is the UKs oldest converter and is now merged with the Italian Sea Group, Auto-Trail VR, which is part of the French-owned Tregano Group and Autocruise. Other major motorhome manufacturers also make touring caravans. These include the Explorer Group with two motorhome brands of Compass and Elddis and the Swift Group who sell the Swift, Ace and Bessacarr brands.
